My Thought on the State Budget Crisis

Since the announcement of the $14.5 billion deficit, I have been wondering, how could we go so far in debt and why did the Governor allow such a thing to happen. We kicked Gray Davis out of office and elected Schwarzenegger for the same thing? Then, I thought, this is just another disgusting ploy to raise taxes. Cut schools, hospitals, fire and police and parks, just what we all use, and when we feel the pinch we will gladly raise our contribution to the state for these essential services. We wouldn't repair all of the financial hemorrhaging by controlling immigration but we could sure make a dent on the $14.5 B. According to reports from the US Government, California, spends $10.5 Billion a year on education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens. That cost is about 72% of our deficit. Why are so many of us indifferent to what is happening.

I've heard they do, but how are they getting away with it? I've never heard about anyone punished or jailed for voter fraud - legal or illegal. This tells me the over-site of the system is weak.

There have been a few cases prosecuted, but their primary goal is to get people to vote, not to ensure the sanctity of the process. I wonder if this leads more people to vote, or less. Many people have disenfranchised themselves because they believe it to be a false god. What I don't know is, if the lax voter registration process and lack of interest in securing it is contributing to that disenfranchisement. We won't know until we try.
