On May 9, 2015, during a combat patrol around Bagram Airfield, Pfc. Matthew Aiken's vehicle was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device. As the vehicle's gunner, Aiken's upper torso and head were directly exposed to the detonation. At BAF's Craig Hospital, it was determined that he received a concussion because of his proximity to the detonation of the IED.
