The following thread and commentary is directed to an area where I lived as a kid, and where some of my relatives still do. We used to call it "south sac", and that is still slightly accurate, however as Sacramento's boundaries expand, that term's description moves with it. The area I am writing about is Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, from fruitridge road to Florin Road, and runs east and west of MLK Jr. blvd for several blocks also. More specificaly, the area within a few blocks surrounding MLK Jr. Blvd. and 47th avenue is the focal point of the illegal activity.

In the following video, an illegal unlicensed food vendor selling tacos and tamales is pushed away from the AM/PM entrance by sheriffs deputies. The area she was vending from is then attacked by rats who have grown accustomed to the food waste spilled on the ground around the vending area. You can see the food vendor causing traffic problems and selling to passersby.
Just a quick note: Whatever feelings you may have for the spirit and willingness of these vendors must be balance with that of the AM/PM owner who sells his product legally, inspected and pays rent on the area the illegal one stands on. The other thing is, food that is not handled properly and kept at proper temperatures grows bacteria quickly. That is why we have health inspections at the AM/PM

Heavy volumne today. Lotta loitering. I counted 175 within an 8 block area. The hiring was low, but still apparent. The attitude reflects the idleness and prospects. There's just not enough work in the area.
