A ton of pot found in San Diego area
    June 12, 2009 2:00 AM

Federal officers arrested a Mexican national Thurssay after he tried to drive through a Border Patrol checkpoint in the San Diego area in a big rig loaded with more than a ton of marijuana, authorities reported.

The 48-year-old man, who was in the United States legally, pulled into the Pine Valley-area inspection station on Interstate 8 about 4:30 a.m., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Agents directed him to a secondary search area, where they opened the cargo compartment of the tractor-trailer and found hundreds of bundles of cannabis lying in plain view among loose wood chips. The total weight of the illicit drug haul was 2,409 pounds, officials said.

The suspect, whose name was not released, and the marijuana were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

    I don't know....
This sounds like a decoy, or a set up. Maybe he was a sacrifice for the good of publicity. Seems rather stupid and bold to have just thought he could drive through. Might be that someone told him things were taken care of.
