Border patrol finds 73 illegal immigrants in back of man's truck
Officials say 50-year-old man has been arrested at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in San Diego County after 73 illegal immigrants from Mexico were found in the back of a truck he was driving.
Border Patrol officials said in a statement Monday that the unidentified big-rig driver from Mexico was arrested Saturday and is in federal custody awaiting prosecution for alien smuggling.
Officials say the truck was searched after agents observed that the driver appeared nervous.
Border Patrol Agent Jerry Conlin says the 53 men and 20 women found in the semi's trailer would be returned to Mexico if they had no criminal histories.
